When we lived for a while in Lake County we had occasion to call the Sheriffs dept. After giving our report I overhead him calling his department. “I don’t quite understand, they are living like hippies but they don’t act like hippies!” He had seen our mattresses spread out over the bedroom floor like your illustration.
I tried to point out to him that my partner being part Japanese this is how they live with futons. Not so far for the baby to fall!
He didn’t get it. He obviously put it down to the fact that we were all foreigners. We decided to leave it.
