Hey all, and a Ho Ho HO!

Hello Mama,
Guess what? Tomorrow is my birthday! (a fact you would know if you owned the 2007 Hathor Calendar ;o) And speaking of calendars, I sent out a ton of them yesterday and more are going out right now…There’s still plenty of time to order so never fear dear mama, plenty of time to buy the books and calendars for all the new mamas you know! (but of course you should begin now if you’re dropping the hint to your dear darling husband that you want one under the tree, I definitely don’t want you to be disappointed!) Just tell him to look on the top left of my website and he’ll see the lovely picture of a child holding a calendar, click there a voila! He’s shopping for everything Hathor!

Also, on the business front, you’ll notice that the advertising spaces just under the calendar link on the left are mostly empty ;o( If you’ve got a business and want to drive the lovely fans of Hathor to it then click on the ‘Sponsor Hathor!’ link, and earn my undying gratitude and know that you’re helping to support the funny funny Hathor comics that are Free! for the world! almost 150 last year alone!

And in case you’re concerned that Hathor is just not important enough in the whole scheme of things…think again! I won an award!!!!!! Best Parenting Blog (and I got the lucite award to prove it ;o) bloggeraward.jpg

anyway, enough about me…

Hathor’s Calendar for 2008 Is at the Printers!

Dear Mama,
Looking forward to the Hathor Calendar? well, this year it’s even better! New and Improved! With not just one comic per page, but two! and sometimes even three (albeit very tiny) comics! And remember the whimsical, hand cut and ‘pasted by a staff of under-paid child labor-ers’ look of the past Hathor calendars? Not here! Not this time! this time I (Heather) worked extra diligently to scan all the parts into the computer-thingy on my desk and delivered it to the printer on a shiny, new disc (is that the right word?) instead of stapled and paper-clipped together and shoved into a folder that’s not big enough and passed over to the printer with embarrassing coffee stains on the month of April. It’s practically like I’m tech-savvy! So far I’ve seen the first page, and it’s GORGEOUS. if I do say so myself. And guess what? it’s still the same old low, low price of $15. wow! Here’s the front: null

And for International Orders:

and while you’re at it, how about ordering a couple of books, too?

Does your Mother-in-Law think you’re crazy for breasfeeding your 3 month old? Does your Aunt think that you should introduce the bottle so that she can feed the baby too? Well, you need these books! The Milk of Hathor is a book that is chock full! of all of the breastfeeding comics from 2002 (the very beginning!) until 2006 (not the end!) The Birth of Hathor follows the artist (Heather Cushman-Dowdee) through Graduate School where the comic evolved from paintings, sculptures and performances; describes the process, thoughts and philosophies that make Hathor such an amazing Cowgoddess and includes 58 of the earliest cartoons. Buy them, leave them on your coffee table, and see your family change their minds! Or at least laugh and shake their heads, see, now they know you aren’t alone!

Only $20 each!

The Titty Tent Product!

Hello All,
Mama (Sam D.) sent me the link to a product that was the inspiration for the Titty Tent in the next two comics. It really does exist, though I’m not going to link to it because it dawned on me that the real product is probably just a mama, like you and me, with a crafty ability, trying to figure out how to wring a simple dollar or two out of this cruel world so that she can stay home with her wee ones. (At least that’s what I assume. And we all know what assumptions do.) But anyway, you’ve seen a similar product I’m sure, made to hide your Horrifically Ginormous Boobs away from polite society. So here’s two comics that celebrate the absurdity of the breastfeeding cover, enjoy!

And speaking of wringing a dollar, I’m going on vacation on Saturday and now would be a great time to buy some ad space, or a book, or a tee-shirt. That way I can get it in the mail to you before I go!

Clash of World Views!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to compare and contrast the mainstream-childcare world view with the one that more closely reflects my own (and yours too, I assume ;o) and came up with this series of comics… I’ve tried to remember which books informed the basis of my ideas and the one that I come up with the most is the Continuum Concept: If you haven’t read it yet, I really recommend it. But with a caveat. The Continuum Concept wasn’t written as a parenting guide and the author has never been a parent, the point of view is anthropological, and within its cover is plenty to interpret and decipher. And debate. Also, it was written during a time in which Freudism, and oedipus complexes, and other such psycho-gobbledy goo goo, were discussed with abandon. Jean Liedloff’s opinion on ‘why some adults are the way they are’ differ widely from our currently held opinion (her thoughts on homosexuality, specifically) and so should be read with the theorem “take what you want, leave the rest” in mind. Have I enticed you yet? I’ve loaned the book out to quite a few people, and some LOVE it, some HATE it. But, there you go. A pretty good book.

And while you’re in the mood to buy something, don’t forget I have books and shirts for sale too!

Love,
Heather
