Hey all, I wanted to share this:Motherwear Podcast: Heather Cushman-Dowdee, creator of Hathor the Cowgoddess.
and to repost a classic comic:

This Comic is related to the comics: Hey My Doctor is a Joke! and My Doctor is a Joke #60000!
And the musing: Want to Read More about the Doctor Joke?
Because I’m having one of those weeks…preparing for the Trust Birth Conference (You should Come!) and worrying about my mother who’s in the hospital (diabetes complications with her feet) and you know, being a fabulous mom. I hope to have a new comic in a couple of days!

So, you’ve probably noticed that I’m posting a lot of comics without giving you any musings to comment on, but that’s because I’ve just finished my third book. Oh MY! And things get a little crazy around here when I’m in the last moments of a book, the crazy uploading, the frantic typing, the standing around the computer and swearing at the screen. yes indeedy, do. fun fun fun ;o)
So, probably (I’m aiming for having the first batch at the Trust Birth Conference in two weeks. See, yet another fabulous reason to buy your tickets now! Everyone who’s coming, drop me a line and maybe we can get together for dinner Saturday evening- by that I mean we’ll go do an early bird special somewhere that loves kids ;o) you’ll be seeing the Buy the New Book link in the next 2 weeks yippee! It’s called Hathor’s Zines, Slings and Other Do-It-Yourself Things. (the book I promised about birth stories is coming next ;o)
But, in the meantime, while I haven’t been paying a whole heck of a lot of attention I notice that two subjects of former Hathor comics have taken out advertising space on my little ol’ blog. Drum roll please: On the left we have Baby Talk magazine; you know, they put a breastfeeding baby on their cover and all hell broke loose? And on the Right, (occassionally) The View! Famously Anti-breastfeeding! Now, being a mother with a family who’s trying to run a business, I feel that if the view wants to give me money then okay- free comics for stay-at-home- mothers isn’t really incredibly lucrative without the sponsorship. BUT in fairness they did deserve my derision not so long ago. So, I thought for fun, I’d dust off those old comics and re-run them so that you can enjoy the irony. (no need to click on the ads, those spaces are pay-a-flat-premium fee, not pay-by-the-click ;o) The baby talk ones are there too…
Love,
Heather

Well, here I am making my resolutions (6 in all!) when by the time I get to the last one (good thoughts, spread them…) I realize that a few days ago I broke that resolution (ALREADY!- maybe it doesn’t count because I broke it before I even made it, but I’m going to apologize anyway). Here goes. You see, a few days ago I published on my blog a list of the most horrific and underreported birth stories of the past year. Sure, I put a ‘caution’ at the front, but if you are anything like me, you’ll read them anyway, and then lay awake haunted by how awful it all is. And the thing is, knowing about these terribly sad stories doesn’t really make anything better, not for the women or families involved and not really for the millions of women who are pregnant and are choosing a place/way to birth right now. It might scare them into a homebirth, but a fear-based homebirth isn’t really what anyone’s after, is it?
I think everyone will agree that there are plenty of incredibly frightening birth stories out there in the world. How ’bout we spread some of the good stories, even if they aren’t your own? I’ve got a collection of about 3 that I tell people about whenever I get the chance. The first and second are my own births, the third is a wonderful story of a post-term unassisted vbac at home. It’s fabulous. And I want some more, because I want to compile them into a book of birthstories and comics and funnies and writings that any of us could give to a new-ly pregnant mama and feel confident that it will grow trust, in our bodies, and our births. So, check out the post ‘calling for Birth stories!’ if you’d like to spread some good thoughts around with me…

I planned to write a couple of days ago, but I’ve been in the thick of a bunch of sick-o stuff. We have a tooth abscess, a possibly broken finger, the vomits, a sore throat, and lice. I kid you not. such is the life as a host organism with a brood of wee ones! (CAUTION! if you think that parasites can’t happen to you, and you scoff or some such thing. You will get parasites three fold. It’s the way the universe works. Lice, Pinworms, fungus. With your name on it!) So this is the third of six new Resolutions, I promise I’ll get through them pronto!
I am reading the BEST book! I usually wait until I finish, but I’m too excited! For my birthday I got a little mad money, so I went to my local BIG BOX bookstore ;o( and waiting on a table, just inside the door…

I’ve been meaning to send this link for a while now, this a real-life friend of mine, an attachment parenting, slinging, breastfeeding, homeschooling mama, singing a song that she says-at least in part- is inspired by me! Here’s the story: I told her husband that he shouldn’t call our home phone because we never answer it because of the bill collectors and tele-marketers. This sparked a conversation about bill collectors and making ends meet and living in the world as it has become and being middle class and Voila! The most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Get your kleenex, seriously! and then go here to listen The Middle of Nowhere
I’d love to get her a whole bunch of activity on her myspace page, so leave kind words, accolades and due respect and pass the song around if you’re so inclined.
love,
Heather
