Hey Mamas,
A couple of years ago, I declared that December 26th should be the Action Day for Normal Birth
Boxing Day!. Think about it, the day after Christmas, when a whole bunch of everyone has celebrated (or not!) the birth of Jesus in a lowly stable. As far as I can tell, Mary didn’t have an induction, an episiotomy, an epidural, or a cesarean section. Correct me if I’m wrong. She gave birth un-drugged and unassisted. Just a normal birth, and a whole large portion of the world celebrates it. So, I’m thinking December 26th would be the perfect time to picket the hospitals, perhaps? Put on screenings of The Business of Being Born or Pregnant in America ? Or, perhaps more feasible and easier to do the day after Christmas would be to write a letter to the Editor of your local newspaper and/or favorite magazines. That’s what I plan to do, write a letter to my newspaper (because I’m WAY overwhelmed by stuff!) . I’m going to tell them about Mary’s birth in the stable, about normal birth, how most doctors and nurses have never seen a normal birth, and tell them that we need to protect Midwifery and the right to homebirth, and why December 26th is the Action Day for Normal Birth.

I’ll post my letter as soon as i can finish/start it ;o) If any of you write one, please post it here so we can see what the plans are- read: copy your homework. hee hee. Note to self (and you out there) how ’bout next year we write the letters in July?! and then just store them them to send just before Christmas! Hey, I’ll write that on my Hathor 2008 Calendar!
