[...] Palabrerío wrote an interesting post today!.Here’s a quick excerptHappy Thanksgiving, Happy Buy Nothing Day! First off, Happy Thanksgiving, I hope you and yours have a lovely, lovely, feast. I had the coolest thanksgiving-y thing happen on Sunday… My feast is going to be 14 people, here, in my tiny house. We have a wooden table that will fit easily 8 people, but only 6 wooden chairs. My dh and I were looking to borrow tables and chairs from anyone.anyone?
Yippee about the table... don't you love when that happens!

We have been doing the "Buy nothing day" for 3 years now, and for the last two years (this will be #3) we have used no credit for the holidays. I know to some that isn't a big thing, but it is for us.

Happy Thanksgiving Hathor you wonderful cow goddess!

I have to work, and I work in a call center, so the only thing I MAY buy is a soda from the vending machine. I love finding free stuff on the street. My dining room table and chairs were free, we just had to roll them down from the house 2 blocks away that I saw on my way home from somewhere else, I forget where....

I love buying nothing! :-) I never heard it being called "Buy Nothing Day" but that's what I've been doing for years. I try not to even leave the house the day after Thanksgiving.

I get a lot of free stuff too, esp on craigslist.com. I've heard it called "freecycling".

I've been doing Buy Nothing Day for years now... I just can't stand the mall that day! Too many people, most of them stressed out and oozing bad feelings! I prefer to take a day off the middle of the week and go early in the morning, when it's peaceful. OK, so there are sales, but the chaos just isn't worth it. And, frankly, I think the world would be a happier place if everyone just had off the day after Thanksgiving. (I won't even go into what I say about the stores that brag about being open on holidays- you're making your employees miss a day with their families, and you're proud of it. Right, there's a good company policy!)

Well, I work retail, and thanks to a lot of people not buying, I was called off work today :( That means less money for my family and me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into supporting major corporations, but I do rely on my job for my families well-being. At this rate I won't even be able to afford rent.
