Maggie Gyllenhaal Breastfeeds in Public!
More than once! Back on May 8th, Mandy G. sent me this photo:

and I loved it because she is doing the ‘pull down’ instead of the ‘push up’ on her shirt. That shows style and verve! and commitment! and then look at the eye contact, she’s obviously in deep. Which made me believe that she’s really a breastfeeder, in for the long haul.
Then I assumed that this would be that last we’d see of her NIP; that from now on she’d throw on an expensive cover-up or something, I was wrong! yay! I recieved these photos from I-dra and Katherine and Julinda too… freaked a little by the star, what’s up with that? 
or the same photo here: can you believe the blurry box? or here, th e whole lot of them without the blur or star But hey, a celeb breastfeeding about town is always a good thing for the movement, whatever the idiotic comments say!

ps. 6/9/2007 Courtney s. just sent me the photo without the star! As many knowledgable Hathor readers pointed out, the star was obviously meant to cover the shallow latch OUCH!

It’s a beautiful thing. I can understand the pull-down thing. I usually wear a lot of T-shirts, so I aways would do the pull-up, but in the summer, the pull-down is the only way to go with a tank or halter or a bathing suit top!!I aways buy a bikini going “How easy will it be to pull this aside to nurse.” I have a bikini top that looks like Marylin Monroe’s infamous white halter dress, and it’s perfect for nursing.

It is so great to see more women NIP!!! Couldn’t understand the need for the star, heck porno is avaliable all over without stars *sigh*, but so cool that she is sticking with nursing her little one!!!! Now if she would just drop that awful pram (can’t think of what they are called in the US, that thing with wheels *lol*) in favour of a sling….

What’s really funny is if you go and read the comments under the picture with the star. One goofy person actually suggested that she pump and then carry her milk in bottles. As my cousin discovered, not every baby will take breastmilk that way- much to her husband’s dismay. And who wants to drag around a pile of bottles and rapidly-turning-into-mommy-yogurt-breastmilk? Yuck! Two points for Maggie- there are a lot of understanding supporters under that picture, too.

My baby will (distainfully) take breastmilk bottles from my husband, but not from me, so I would just tell people it’s either this or a screaming baby. If they have a problem, look away! Besides, I personally think covering with a blanket or one of those stupid waste of money “hooter hiders” just draws more attention to the fact that you’re nursing. Besides, if I try covering my baby, she just gets uncomfortable and screams. She’ll only nurse in her sling or in bed, and occasionally in my chair with the boppy underneath her. For some reason, she refuses to nurse without something under her other than my arm. Maybe she’s afraid of falling?

That is so awesome. Lately I have been using the pull down more. I will probably stop the whole pull shirt up move that I am so used to! Not to mention the double layered pull up pull down that makes dressing in Texas summers a pain in my butt. To Hell with bottles, we own zero and there is no point!
Thanks Heather for your awesome comics as usual! The Birthsmart series cracks me up. Go Maggie!!!!!!!!! That sounds like a nice name for a girl doesn’t it. Everyone having girls should consider naming them Maggie Gyllenhaal Whatever. That or ____ Hathor ______ .

a picture is only a second in time, everyone’s talking about her bad latch well, i think that its probably one of those fall asleep at the boob moments just before mom realizes its time to pop that thing out or get chomped!
