Similac and Walmart give Infant Nutrition Seminars!
And imagine, there’s no mention of Breastfeeding! Wow!
All Things Baby
The event has alas! already happened, but still 5 comics coming!
Enjoy!

Heather

I almost get the idea you think Wal-Mart doesn’t care about the well-being of our babies!
To be fair (why I feel I should, I don’t know - I am not fond of Wal-Mart and they certainly aren’t fair to other businesses), they do mention breastfeeding products in their baby-related materials. But of course they have way more products for bottlefeeding, because - well - you don’t need a lot of products for breastfeeding. You can get by with just breasts and a baby. Even I, a work-outside-the-home mom who pumps, only had to buy a pump, a few bottles, and bottle liners. Nobody’s going to get rich off of that. And I know businesses need to make money.
I would love to see the big retailers actually PROMOTE breastfeeding. I mean, most pay lip service to it, and most of them stock a few mainstream products to get a bit of money out of us, but what if they actually promoted it? Nursing-friendly benches throughout the stores, with little “nursing welcome.” Literature that not only mentions breastfeeding but emphasizes that breastmilk is the preferred food for babies and formula is just a substitute. Lactivist t-shirts on the racks. A variety of slings on the shelves (rather than just one kind of front carrier). Wouldn’t that would be grand?

That’s supposed to be “nursing welcome” signs by the benches - I left out a word.
