Want to read more about the Doctor Joke?
I read about it here: Per Doctor today: “Cows milk and breastmilk the same” ?? and it’s inspired me to do a whole series…Thank you for the heads up Kathryn, and thank you to Gabysmom617 for telling your story, I’m sure it didn’t feel funny at the time, but whooooohoooo, that kind of idiocy is surely a laugh riot!
Love,
Heather

If they’re the same, why do many people think it’s weird to feed one to a five-year-old but not the other? (Unfortunately these people sort of have it backwards, but that’s another topic.)

Julinda:
That is so true! How funny, I didn’t put that together. Why is it not OK to bf if bm and cm are the same thing?? LOL NUTS!

lol! Yeah, I read about that when she wrote it on MDC (You should hang out on the lactivism board more if you want some more stories like this, they’re EVERYWHERE!) I’m due with my first in two weeks– I’m almost a little terrified of people like this to say the least! Of course, I’d be the first to point out the flaw in his logic– If breastmilk is the same as cow’s milk, and he’s getting breastmilk, why does he need cow’s milk? Thank you, doctor! It’s all so clear now! LMAO!!!
…. seriously though, that’s sad…..

Hi Hathor,
This series of postings about stupid comments dr’s make has gotten me thinking. In fact, I’ve been thinking about my last visit to my daughter’s pediatrician 5 weeks ago for her one year “well baby exam”. I caved after not bringing her in for 8 months to my friends and mother harping on me “what if something is wrong with her!!!” and took her, against my better judgement. I was greeted by a nurse who looked at me with shock and awe on her face when I told her I was still nursing. Her reply? “My goodness, you’re not feeding her any food? She needs calcium and iron and protein! You can’t just nurse her!” This woman obviously does not have children, because anyone with kids knows that a one year old wants whatever Mommy and Daddy have, especially food. I calmed her down and told her that my daughter is quite the little eater in addition to her nursing. I then looked at the helpful pamphlet they give all the parents before they inject the kids with all kinds of chemicals, and it said “all children should be completely weaned from the bottle or breast by 12-15 months of age”. I laughed at this at the time, but the more I think about it the angrier I become. Not everyone knows to trust their gut instinct and *breaking the (proverbial) rules* is A-OK. Then, after being being told that my little one is a danger to society and that she should not leave the house by the dr because I declined all shots, I was met by a set of parents debating at the check out counter whether or not to circumcise their 4 day old baby boy in the morning or afternoon of the following day.
Talk about crappy. I’m currently looking for a new pediatrician.

That is shocking. Why does everyone assume that if a child is still nursing they are not eating table food? I know some kids don’t, but most do. My two year old is still nursing and eats as much his 8 year old brother. LOL
PLUS! I guess because it is in the USA the WHO thing about nursing until AT LEAST two doesn’t count?? And since when is breast milk lacking in calcium, iron and protien? Do babies not need that stuff too? UGH!
What a bad visit! I say you go outside and get some fresh air! LOL
Oh and BTW why would a non-vaxed kid be a danger to vaxed kids? I mean if the vaxes worked then wouldn’t she just be a “danger” to other non-vaxed kids? But what am I doing?? THINKING!! LOL Hugs mama!

Umm… if that were really true…. why can’t we give babies cow’s milk from birth? Why can’t we just give them plain old cow’s milk from birth? What would be the point of manufacturing formula????
